Laurel or Yanny? Which One You Hear? Explanation and more

Hello Everyone, now there is a new trend in the market and people are fighting over this two names , Laurel and Yanny. This is really interesting. We have seen a lot of images with illusion, but never heard that type of audio illusion before. Two names , which are completely different with each other, but people can hear both of them coming from a single audio. Some says they hear Laurel or Lorel or Lawrol and others hearing it as Yanny or Yummy or Yemmy etc .Before i proceed on more explanation , let's hear the sound first -

Which one you got? you can tell me in the comment section . Anyway, the only explanation of this is the way sound wave travel into a person ears is not always the same like others. Some get this in a high pitch and some in low. May be that is the reason people hearing this differently. I personally heard Laurel, and i guess i am hearing this right. Why am i right? Well you need to check the Wikipedia for that .

In Wikipedia, it says -

"The audio clip originated from a recording of Jay Aubrey Jones, an opera singer, speaking the word "Laurel"as one of 200,000 reference pronunciations produced and published by vocabulary.com in 2007"

So this voice actually saying Laurell, which i heard, and that's why i said i am correct. But it also doesn't mean that the people who's hearing the other word have bad ears or they need to go to the doctor.

Here's a stat you can also find on wiki " 53% of over 500,000 people answered on a Twitter poll that they heard a man saying the word "Laurel", while 47% reported hearing a voice saying the name "Yanny" ."

Sound Waves flow differently to different people. But that much of change, those two names , there pronunciation is no way near to each other. I have tried by changing the pitch from high to low, but i still hard Lawrel. I have tried in so many different ways to hear the word Yanny. None of my experiment worked.

The only way i get closed to the word Yanny is - I played the word in headphone, but i didn't put it on. I kept it in a distance and the word coming to me is too low. And in that way , the low tone that coming to my ear, is something like - yawui, yawe etc. Not clear enough but it sounded like that.

There's nothing wrong with the ears if you are hearing the one or other or both.  But this is something which is already confirmed it's place to stay long time in the discussion of the people. Let's see if someone come up with a clear good explanation. I'll try to share that too. Till then, just enjoy and have fun with your friends.
