Which One Is Better for Streaming as a Beginner - YouTube or Twitch? Let's Find Out
Hi, hope everyone doing good. In here, I share my personal experiences. I can be right or maybe wrong, but the choice is always yours, whether you follow my words or not. Today I am going to talk about my personal experience on YouTube and Twitch. Which platform is better if you just started streaming. Let's find out.
I have been on YouTube since 2008 I think. And I started streaming on Twitch from the past few months. Though I created my account a long time ago. Let's see what it takes to be eligible to earn money from this platforms -
Youtube :- It takes 1000 subscribers and 4000 hours watch time to become a partner in YouTube.
Twitch :- It takes 50 followers, stream for at least 8 hours, 3 average viewers on your stream, and stream on 7 different days to get into the Twitch Affiliate Program. To become a Twitch Partner, you need to have 75 Avg viewers on your live stream, with at least 25 hours of stream time and stream on 12 different days in past 30 days.
So these are the criteria. Though there isn't much difference in Twitch Partner and Affiliate. You get almost all the opportunity to earn money that a partner gets, so don't worry.
Now the real question is which on is better, YouTube or Twitch? Let's start with YouTube first. After you become YouTube partner, earning will start. But, there are so many drawbacks which makes things complicated for many people. 1000 subscribers and 4000 watch hours sounds a lot right? But take a look at this video stats -
This single video in my channel gave me a lot of stats within 8-9 months. I am not a great content creator but I am sure you are, so if you can create something really funny or catchy or viral or important, then a single video can get you all the requirements to become a partner in YouTube in 7 days or months. Once you get into the program by your effort, you'll generate regular visitor in your channel. And you'll start earning through different types of ads. Now, apart from uploading videos, if you just want to stream there, then you have to keep streaming unless you reach the criteria. But I still suggest you to upload videos and do live streams. That'll grow the opportunity to fulfill the criteria and get more visitors in the channel.
After you become partner, as we all know you can get paid from the ads in your stream. You can also earn from superchat. And also if you properly set your stream up, then you can definitely get new viewers into your stream. YouTube algorithm is good and chances are high that you are going to meet new people in your stream daily. A lots of people are making good money from there, we all know that. There are also so many other ways to earn money in here. But I can talk about it in another post.
As a beginner in live stream, YouTube is a really good place. Fulfilling the partner criteria can be troublesome depending on the streams you are doing, contents you are creating, how good you are in front of camera, in these things. But once you get it through hard work, it'll be good. And also, I have seen in the livestream, a lots of new people show up in the stream no matter what game you playing. YouTube always suggest your stream to like minded people and engagement is better.
Now let's talk about Twitch. Twitch is a platform where I don't think people come here just like YouTube to search videos and watch the songs or funny stuffs. People come here to see you play games, to see you only. Now why should they see you? I always say this in every post I write about Twitch and I am gonna say it again, that Twitch is a platform for professionals. If you are really good presenting yourself in front of the camera, then you have the chance.
How much you are going to earn from here? I already wrote a post about how much you can earn from twitch ads, you can read it here. Twitch earning is not going to be like YouTube. The place is competitive, becoming an affiliate will give you the opportunity to earn through ads, and also it'll unlock bits with which people can cheer you, each bits is - $0.01, then also people can donate you, they can subscribe your channel by paying it.
But to earn money properly from all these options in Twitch, you need to reach 1000 live viewers at least, to get some income from your channel, specially to earn through ads. That is not an easy task. But even 100 viewers at least will help you earn some but I don't know whether it's well enough for you or not. About bits and cheers and subscribers, we can't say anything can we? It depends on the people and also how interesting you are in your streams.
Recently a reddit user shared the earning of the big names of Twitch in the past 2 years and they are earning in millions. So, it's clear that once you do good, the platform will get you insane amount of money. Now it's up to your hard work, how long it will take to reach at least in a favorable position.
The way I see it, if you can stick up with your work, and don't lose hope, then you can achieve it no matter if its YouTube or Twitch. As a beginner, I think you'll find YouTube more engaging as people and friends and most common people love to pass time over there.
In the case of Twitch, only interested people and game lovers are there. And no matter which game you play, you'll always end up with some visitors, maybe a few but do something that they become a follower instantly when they click on your stream.
That'd be all knowledge for now. I hope you people read it. I am going to keep writing more about it. Thanks for reading my blog.
