How to Repair Graphics Card ? Problem Solved

Hello everyone, Today I am going to talk about how you can actually fix your graphics card. Okay so I used to have a GTX 1050 ti and after using for 3 years, it died. Certainly, the warranty period for that GPU was over so I thought let's try to fix it and see if it works. And guess what? It worked! I accidentally fixed the GPU. Graphics card isn't cheap, it really hurts when GPU stops working. If your GPU just died and you are searching anyway to make it work again, this post is going to help you.

Now, there are some ways by which you can measure whether your Graphics card is failing or dying slowly. I wrote a post already about the problems I faced when my GPU was dying.

Anyway, so let's move on to how I fixed my graphics card. There are few things which you need to consider before you go and start repairing your graphics card. You need to be very calm, have patience and you have to be gentle with the memory. Whatever you do, you need to be very careful.

Things you need to repair your graphics card -

* Brush
* Screwdriver set
* Thermal Paste
* Heat Blower Machine
* Spirit or any other liquid with which you can clean circuit boards

If your GPU stopped working and you are confirmed about it, then take it out from the CPU case. Now remove the heat sink and also the fan if it has one or two. And then you are going to see the processor under the heat sink.

 And am sure you are going to see the default thermal paste is fried and all over it.  Now clean the whole GPU board with the spirit(chemical) or any other cleaning liquid and clean the thermal paste gently from the processor inside the GPU.

Use a soft brush and when cleaning, just do it gently. Brush must be soft one or use the soft cleaning cloth, mostly we use it to clean our sunglasses.

After the cleaning process, you have to heat it. I don't have any heating machine, I think it's called a blower, from where hot air comes out. Now in my case, I put it on my roof, well more like I fried it. I have seen people using it in the saucepan and heating in Oven. As for me, Here in summer, the outside temperature goes up to above 40 degrees Celcius, so you can imagine the condition of the roof at that time. So I took it into the roof and placed it under the furious sunlight and waited for half an hour to get it fried.

I took the GPU board which was almost untouchable because it was very very hot and I used paper to grab it. Now waited a few minutes to cool it down and then I applied the thermal paste and attached the heat sink and also the fan. By the way, I used toothpaste as Thermal Paste. But do not use it, as it does not work well. Thermal Paste doesn't cost much, buy it before you start this whole process.

After assembling the GPU, this is how it looks -

That's all the thing I have done. And now it was the testing time. I was pretty afraid you know, cause I just gave a shot, I didn't know whether it's going to work or not. I put it back on my computer and then turned on the computer and I saw the screen has power and then it started working. And it felt good but still, my heartbeat was a little too fast cause that's not just it, I want to play games with it. And then I opened epic and started running the Fortnite and the rest is here -

After installing the GPU, Started The PC and it worked
Now here is the FPS I got when I ran Fortnite -

I have never played Fortnite in this way before even when I bought the GPU. But now I ran the game with EPIC settings in 1080p and I was getting over 30 FPS always and also the game is running at an avg of 40-50 FPS in highest settings. I am going to share a video on youtube of everything I just posted here with pictures. Here is another screenshot of the game -

GPU was running so cool. Look at the temperature in this picture. I don't have Air Conditioning in my room and also the outside temperature is always like 38 - 40 degrees. Running Fortnite in highest settings and the temperature is not crossed 70, which is really kind of felt like an achievement.

After fixing the GPU, it worked for 3 days and then died again. And I never went to fix it again. But I opened it and saw that Toothpaste was totally fried and all over the processing unit. The lesson I learned - Always use Thermal Paste, here it costs only $0.2. When the GPU stopped working, I never thought it's going to work again. But I made it work. Though it didn't last long for me, as we can not say anything about these electronics parts, who knows, maybe this process going to work for you and maybe your GPU can run for another more year or two after getting fixed. We definitely don't know. You can always hope for the best.
